All Aboard Project and Classroom Project Methodology At Loureiro School
The All Aboard Project integrates students’ school curriculum in subjects which relate to the environment and sustainability. Thus, in Citizenship, English, Natural Sciences and Geography, through the project-based learning methodology, students develop actions that aim to change mentalities and develop learning and skills for the future, as responsible and civically active citizens.
In Citizenship curriculum, the environment theme is particularly prominent, being closely linked to the All Aboard project, turning students into mentors in defending the planet. Thus, starting with the presentation of a challenging question, students decide the areas to address and the actions to take. The project does not just focus on implementing knowledge in class but aims at action with younger students. They are the guardians of the planet and as such must be mentors to their peers. This is knowledge for life and as such the activities are practical and action-oriented, namely: learning from experts in lectures; carrying out alert campaigns; workshops on food waste and find solutions for it; use of rainwater; study trips to local industry and organic production farms, as examples of the contribution to the development of a sustainable future.
